The Altramaniacs headed to Naked Foot 5K to have a nice little run through the park. We started at the back of the pack and when the race started we had to walk for a bit before the runners spread out, then spent a few minutes weaving in and out. I mentioned at this point that I didn't warm up at all (Drop had some some crossfit to get the heart rate up and the hammies tight) and we really spent about the first mile at a pretty casual pace, but realized that this wasn't a super competitive field, as we noticed that we were still keeping up with the front runners. At that point we picked up the pace a little and found ourselves in the top three. Drop pulled on ahead with the 1st place guy, passed him, and the two of them were pretty close to each other and put a little distance on me. There was a decent gap between me and 4, so I just kept a consistent pace and took it to the finish. The course was fun and challenging, with LOTS of turns and ups and downs. Not a fact course at all, but a lot of fun. For a 'barefoot friendly' course it had a little section of gravel that gave the non-die hard barefooters a real challenge (I went with my instincts and wore my Instincts), with the rest on pavement, concrete, grass and dirt. Spent the next couple of hours talking running and shoes (or lack thereof) and having a good ol' time. |
