Personal:

I'm a happily married guy with a 5 year old son. I started running on February 1st, 2010 with the goal of completing a triathlon (my one and only "official" race prior to that was the "Centerville half mile fun run" when I was about 8) In that following year I lost nearly 50 lbs, completed the triathlon, numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, bike races, and really started to lean towards running over the other two (though I still cross train with both).

I grew up hiking and riding horses in the mountains, so I've been drawn to take my running to the trails - and haven't looked back! I run them every chance I get, which is about 90% of the time!

Similar route as Saturday, only by myself. BST in Kaysville to the Great Western turnoff (4.7). This time I didn't continue up. I did run down the BST for a little to see where it went, but it got really steep and muddy so I turned back - didn't want to run back up that slop. Overall the trail was in fantastic condition, significantly better than Saturday even after all the rain yesterday. The streams and creeks were running full and strong. Didn't push the pace on the way back quite as hard, but still made good time. Ran into a friend on the trail, so I did stop to chat for a few minutes. Beautiful day!

9.75 miles - 1:31:49 - 9:24 Pace - 1710 vert

30 minutes on the bike trainer while my wife ran - nothing fast, probably 8-9 miles.

There is a BST trail in Kaysville? Is that the Bonneville Shoreline Trail or just the same initials? If that is the case, I guess it makes sense that it would run all along the valley mountains.

I did a nice little afternoon run myself. The temp was perfect for running.

Are you going to race anymore this year?

From Dorsimus on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 22:50:17 from 75.162.131.153

Steam-Yep, theres a fantastic section of the BST in Kaysville, it's where the Wasatch 100 starts.

Lily - Way to get out there! I've got a few things going on, the standard Ragnar and a few 5Ks. Doing the Bair Gutsman in August, which is pretty much in my back yard, its about a half marathon(maybe less) but the first 3-4 miles gain nearly 5000 feet. Hoping to do another 50K or something like that this year-it looks like Jim may be adding a 50K option to the fall Buffalo Run. We'll see what happens :)

Oh, and I have a duathlon (Run-Bike-Run) this Saturday, who knows how that will go!

Lily, he should be adding to that all of the adventure runs I have planned for him: Quest for King's Marathon, a few laps on Timp as part of our "24 Hours on Timp", Zion Traverse, and pacing me for a whole bunch of miles at the Silverton 24 hour race in September. Yeah, he'll be busy. hahahaha.

Can you tell me how to get to the Kaysville BST? I live in Farmington and would like to spend a lot of time on that trail this year. Haw many miles until the turn off to head up to Chinscraper?

From Dorsimus on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 12:31:10 from 75.162.131.153

I guess Jun does know my summer schedule better than me! (really, ha)

VH- Super easy, take 89 up to the 200 N light, turn right but head North (its kind of a T when you turn off 89) drive about a half mile up the hill and you'll see a Wilderness sign with a parking lot off to the left. If you know where the animal shelter is, its across the street. Once your on the trail, its a dirt/gravel road for about a quarter mile, then there's a trail that turns off the road up the hill, you'll take that. It's 4.7 miles to the GW trail turnoff, with some decent hills. There are several other trails that branch off that are cool (Adams Canyon - about 2 miles in). There's a trailhead at about 3.5 that has a bathroom and water (wasn't on yet, but should be soon).

Thanks- I may run into you up there this year.

Matt it's VB, not VH

Nice run! I want to get up there and hit that trail soon.

From Dorsimus on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 15:08:59 from 75.162.131.153

Scott, I'm confused, even more so because both of us are named Matt and I don't know what VB is... :)

Yes you do need to run it soon. It'll give you a good look at the first 5+ (depending on how far you go) miles of the Wasatch 100. We'll have to plan a morning run or somethin' sometime.

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 17:41:45 from 66.239.250.209

VB stands for Van Bail, as in Matt Van Bail (instead of Van Horn). To his credit he hasn't bailed the last two outings.

For sure!
