Personal:

I'm a happily married guy with a 5 year old son. I started running on February 1st, 2010 with the goal of completing a triathlon (my one and only "official" race prior to that was the "Centerville half mile fun run" when I was about 8) In that following year I lost nearly 50 lbs, completed the triathlon, numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, bike races, and really started to lean towards running over the other two (though I still cross train with both).

I grew up hiking and riding horses in the mountains, so I've been drawn to take my running to the trails - and haven't looked back! I run them every chance I get, which is about 90% of the time!

Grandeur Peak loop - met up with Jun and Scott at the trail head off 3300 S and they were standing around scratching their heads wondering where Matt VH was, as his car was sitting in the parking lot, but he was nowhere to be seen. A moment later though, down comes a lone runner from the trail - turns out he hadn't been able to sleep and so just headed up early and got a summit in before we started! We then all started back up together. The trail to the summit is a steep, fairly consistent incline for just over 2 miles before you hit the summit. I could see Craig until 1.5, and then he just disappeared, topping out about 5 minutes sooner than the rest of us.

Once on top we took a few minutes to survey the scenery and take in the beautiful sunrise and changing leaves. Craig decided that he didn't have time to do the entire loop (he really did, I think he was just tired....ha, kidding, of course), so he headed back down the trail we had just come up while we dropped down the east trail.

From the summit looking east

While the west trail is steep and a bit of a slog - you gain over 3000 ft of vert in just over 2 miles - but it was well worth that price to run down that east trail into Millcreek Canyon. Wow. The trail was a pleasure to run down, and the morning sun and turning leaves made it dang near magical. Ha ha.

After a bit of running along the ridge and side of the mountain, you duck down into the trees and work your way along towards the Pipeline trail. This section was a blast and I just let gravity do its job and pull me down the hill. I just got a new camera so I was testing it out by just snapping a ton a pictures to see how they'd turn out while I was running.

Once we got to the pipeline trail, we took it west for a few miles then dropped down at Rattelsnake Gulch where we ran down to Millcreek canyon road, running that to Wasatch and back north to the car.

Overall it was a shade under 11 miles, took about 2:30 - it took almost as long to climb the frist two miles as it did to run the last 8! Super fun day on a fantastic trail.

True that! Good trail to run in every season.

For sure - I'm actually excited to run that this winter.

It's awesome in winter. A few times this year it was deep powder on the back (east) side and we just bombed it down. Fun. The trail is usually packed pretty good all winter.
